Description
GCNF(NR6A1) termed germ cell nuclear factor is an orphan receptor which has no paralogous observed in mammal. The expression is observed only in germ cells of the testis, the spermatids and late-stage spermatocytes. GCNF may have a role in regulating meiotic and post-meiotic stage of germ cells.
Human Diseases
- Infertility: GCNF plays a critical role in spermatogenesis, and its dysregulation can lead to male infertility due to impaired germ cell development.
- Cancer: Altered expression of GCNF has been linked to various cancers, suggesting its involvement in tumorigenesis and cancer progression.
- Developmental Disorders: As a transcriptional regulator, GCNF is essential for normal embryonic development, and mutations may contribute to congenital anomalies.
Cellular Signaling Pathways
- Meiosis Regulation: GCNF is involved in the transcriptional regulation during meiosis, influencing gene expression necessary for germ cell development.
- Retinoic Acid Signaling: GCNF can repress retinoic acid signaling pathways, which are crucial for proper embryonic development and differentiation.
- Nuclear Receptor Signaling: As an orphan nuclear receptor, GCNF interacts with other nuclear receptors to modulate gene expression related to cell fate and differentiation.
Origin
Produced in BALB/c mouse ascites after inoculation with hybridoma of mouse myeloma cells (NS-1) and spleen cells derived from a BALB/c mouse immunized with Baculovirus-expressed recombinant human GCNF(28-58 aa) .
Note
Sodium azide may react with lead and copper plumbing to form explosive metal azides. Flush with large amounts of water during disposal.
